Garbage & Recycling

Residential Garbage
As a resident of the City of Edgerton, you are not required to contract with a garbage hauler - we do that for you.  The contracted provider for Edgerton is Van Dyke Sanitation.  These are your options for 2024:

35-gallon tote (emptied every other week with recycling; available only to single-resident homes) = $11.43/month*
35-gallon tote (emptied every week) = $17.06/month*
65-gallon tote (emptied every week) = $20.43/month*
95-gallon tote (emptied every week) = $23.81/month*

* this amount DOES NOT include the required MN State garbage tax of 9.75%.

For times when you need to set out additional garbage bags, green tags will be available for purchase at Edgerton Food Center (5 tags for $12.50).  Extra garbage bags/cans will not be picked up if they do not have a green tag.  Garbage is picked up every Tuesday morning in Edgerton unless it falls on a holiday. Please check the City's calendar if you're not sure.

Recycling
Single-stream, curbside recycling service is provided to all Edgerton properties free of charge every other week on Tuesday morning.  Please see the City Calendar for specific dates or print this 2024 Edgerton Recycling Calendar.  You should have your recycling container by the curb no later than 6am.

All homes and businesses have been provided a large green container with yellow lid for recycling.  Please see Pipestone County's Recycling Guide to learn what is acceptable and unacceptable in these containers. Paper copies of this information is also available in the brochure rack located in the lobby of the City Hall/Library building.  You may also call City Hall or Van Dyke Sanitation if you need additional information.

NOTE:  Our Edgerton Fire Department also collects aluminum cans in their fundraising trailer on Klindt Street.  If you'd like to contribute to their efforts, please bring your cans to that trailer.

In addition to the general recycling program, Pipestone County has a Weekly Appliance & Hazardous Waste Collection. The collection dates are every Wednesday from 7am-3pm and take place at the Pipestone County Recycling Center located at 718 4th St NW. Items accepted include: appliances, electronics, household hazardous waste, fluorescent bulbs and ballasts, lead acid and rechargeable batteries, and empty pesticide containers. For questions regarding their weekly collection, please contact Pipestone County Recycling Center directly.

City Clean-Up
Each spring, residents are encouraged to participate in our City Clean-Up day to show community pride by working together to keep a clean and attractive town. Check out our 2023 Spring Clean-up Day flyer for details about what is and is not accepted, as well as when fees might apply.
